Multiple DUIs in Florida

Handled By Our Gainesville DUI Attorneys

If you have been previously convicted of driving under the influence (DUI), you most likely only faced misdemeanor charges and minimal penalties. A subsequent DUI conviction can result in much more severe penalties, including felony charges. For individuals who are convicted of a second DUI within five years, they face a mandatory minimum 10-day jail sentence.

In addition, a second DUI conviction may result in:

  • DUI school
  • Up to nine months in jail
  • A fine between $1,000 and $4,000
  • Mandatory installation of an ignition interlock device
  • Suspended driver’s license for up to five years (can be reduced to one)

In general, DUI charges may be elevated to more serious charges under certain circumstances. These include cases where there was an accident involving damage to property, an accident inflicting harm upon an individual, a DUI while a minor was in the vehicle, and more.

In order to fight these charges and help avoid these serious penalties, contact experienced representation right away. At Dunham & Ingram, our Gainesville DUI lawyers have decades of experience handling these types of cases and protecting individuals charged with subsequent DUI offenses. We have the skill set needed to effectively protect your rights and fight for your freedom.

About Subsequent DUI Offenses

If you are convicted of DUI for a third time, you may face up to 1 year in jail, fines between $2,000 and $5,000, and your vehicle will be impounded for 90 days. You will face a mandatory 30-day jail sentence, 48 hours of which must be served consecutively. Your driver’s license will be suspended for a minimum of 10 years and you may become eligible for a hardship reinstatement after 2 years have passed.

For a fourth DUI conviction, you may face:

  • Felony charges
  • Five years in jail
  • Minimum fine of $2,000
  • Revoked driver’s license for life
